Dilip Ghaswala - An Actor, an Artist, an Art

Dilip Ghaswala - An Actor, an Artist, an Art

Penned by Sakshi Deora

દૂર કોઈ એક પરદો સળવળે ;
કેટલી વાતો ખુલી છે વાતમાં ?

સાંજ ઢળતા એ વળે માળા ભણી ;
જોમ છલકાતું રહે છે પાંખમાં .

ધ્રુવ તારક છું તમારા પ્રેમનો ;
આ "દિલીપ" ચમકી જશે આકાશમાં.

Art sure has a way of taking people to places unimagined.

In my blood, you will find red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and acting cells which are the gifts of his immensely talented father, nothing short of a legend himself who has worked with 4 generations of artists, and came 3rd in an international competition during the pandemic.

I sell myself in 4 parts - A teacher, a writer, a theatre artist, and an onscreen actor.

Mr. Dilip Ghaswala - The Teacher

Mr. Ghaswala holds degrees in B.Sc., B.Ed. and M.Ed. and started his teaching career as a chemistry lab teacher.

He has been awarded "The Best Teacher" by the government and the "Lifetime Education Award" by Page 3 Magazine along with Surat Channel.

Of course, his knack for acting found him in his teaching years as well and he directed many school plays and mono acts. Literally, all the mono acts he has directed so far have won!

Mr. Dilip Ghaswala - The Wordsmith

In his early acting days, Dilip found a close friend in Bhagwati Kumar's son, who'd occasionally take him home. There Dilip met Bhagwati Kumar who asked him if he likes to write, and asked to weave something. Inspired by the beauties of monsoon, he wrote the above lines that absolutely impressed Bhagwati Kumar! So much so that he got it published in Gujarat Mitra next week - making it Dilip Ghaswala's first newspaper publication.

From there, there was no stopping Dilip! He set about participating and winning in state-level ghazal competitions and called back as a judge too.

Every Saturday his works are published in Gujarat Mail newspaper's supplementary called Aastha.

He also runs a column named Shabd Spandan in a Sunday supplement named Bhagyshree of Surat Mitra!

His unique style of writing stories and poetries based on real incidents has won him around 22K followers on Pratilipi and many fans on social media.

Today he is a proud author of an anthology called Pranay Na Pushpon and a short story collection called Pranay Na Marg.

Mr. Dilip Ghaswala - The Theatre Artist

Dilip went mainstream to theatre after retiring as a teacher.

The journey started when he was in 5th standard, playing the part of the hour hand at a play called Tick Tick Tick.

In his college years, he was under the mentorship of Kapil Dev Shukla who directed his first mono-act called Aakash Uge Chhe Tyaare which secured him the first position in the entire state!

A lot of his days went by performing and teaching mono acts. He even taught acting to little children in his Little Children Theatre camp.

Though his acting career took a sweet turn when he performed in a 3- person play titled Zara Thobo on the theme Beti Bachao, which was first performed on 8th March 2007 and is performed still!

The entire audience was teary-eyed by the end of the play.

A woman belonging to the audience asked the artists to play the same in her meeting with the Southern Chamber of Commerce - Women's Wing.

And then the mayor caught hold of them, insisting they perform in their Cooperation meeting, creating a record of 3 shows on a single day!

Soon the brilliance of this play and its artists reached a mass and they were given contracts of government shows.

In one such play sat CM Narendra Modi, who appreciated them saying
You teach people in mere 20 minutes what I preach to them in my 2 hours of speech.

Dilip Ghaswala prides himself on working at every aspect of theatre, be it merely getting the cups of tea, or operating music, which he got the chance in Yazdi Karanjia's show - his Godfather. Taking after him, Dilip enjoys comedy roles.

In one of the very serious plays called Vahaal Na Varasdaa, I played a total of 39 minutes in the play. But every time I'd come on stage, people would just start laughing!

I have played for 50 to 50,000 audiences, and each play was a delight!

Mr. Dilip Ghaswala - The Filmstar!

The lights were set, cameras adjusted, and Dilip Ghaswala's on-screen career got into action with his 1st film called Katargam ni Kanya Ne Varachha No Var directed by Vikram Patel.

To date, he has worked in 15 Gujarati Films.

He even set about and worked in series like Be Nakaab, Khauf, and Maru Man Mohi Gayu with platforms like Shemaroo, and Colors Gujarati, along with National Channels like SonyTV through Crime Patrol.

You can even find him in many short stories and advertisements, including that of Wagh Bakri Chai, Amul Ice Cream, NJF Financials and more!

Stage is my love, films are my flirt

And teaching is his bread, and literature is his passion. But Art is his soul.

The riveting tale of Mr Dilip Ghaswala's life continues, taking along with itself many people to places unimagined!
