Everyone has their meaning to fashion sense. “Fashion is comfort. Comfort that you confidently wear,” says someone who wishes to give a pristine perspective to everyday clothing. Here at HFM, we are all ears for people who want to share their unique vision with society. This time we brought to you the ‘story behind Kapad’ from the POV of the founder herself.
The Idea behind
Ms Dhara Shah academically comes from a commerce background but her family deals in fabric testing, so in the back of her mind, she always wanted to work with fabric in some way or the other. Like everyone else around the world, her life had a major change due to the pandemic. That change gave fuel to the idea and led to the birth of the brand ‘Kaapad’ in 2021.
She has always been keenly interested in quality clothing, that provides sheer comfort. And this was the idea behind her brand that people should be well aware of the fabric they are wearing. And, whatever she wanted as a customer she wishes to offer the same i.e., purity, comfort, and 100% natural material. And that for her is LINEN

Why ‘kaapad’?
The term ‘Kaapad’ shows the down-rooted connection with culture, the brand ‘Kaapad’ promotes prioritizing comfort in your choices, and the meaning of ‘Kapad’ is as simple as the idea behind it, cloth, mere comfortable cloth.
Fashion for Kaapad
The voice of the brand, Dhara believes that “until you are not comfortable with what you are wearing you will not be able to flaunt that garment. Comfort raises your confidence level very high.” So clearly fashion for Kaapad is comfort. And these are not only words but they stand by them, even their design influences depend upon the comfortable experiences of their customers. “If a customer doesn’t find a particular design comfortable we discontinue that. And I think that’s our USP.” So Kaapad works towards being a brand that is close and personally connected with its customers.
Linen- a way of life
Dhara definitely has to say all good about Kaapad’s kaapad which means the fabric of the brand. Kaapad’s choice is crystal clear, it only works with a single material, you got it, that’s Linen. Initially started as a fabric manufacturing and selling brand, now they offer a range of designer outfits as well. They say Linen can’t be explained but experienced. “I call linen a way of life” According to her Linen is not any fabric option available in the market but it is a way of life, you don’t opt for it but eventually you switch to linen and at that point of your life, Kaapad is there to be your companion.
Linen is a naturally sustainable fibre, the fabric promotes eco-friendly and sustainable clothing and in complementary they are working to be a zero-waste processing unit. Too many badges on the shoulder, right?
Into her life
Born and brought up in Indore, married in Vapi, and finally shifted to Surat Ms Dhara has been studying and teaching accountancy for most of her life but as we say destiny has its plans, things fell into place and her decade-old idea came into existence. Currently her startup is incubated at IIM Bangalore and fulfledegly her workshop and store is situated here in Surat. And today Dhara being a working family woman lives with her husband, who is also a co-founder of Kaapad, and a lovely daughter, she manages to keep up with both her work and her home effortlessly. She believes the secret behind that is “ organising beforehand is the key.” She is someone who loves to plan and organise. “ If you don’t know your next step, you will mess up everything.” Amhmm.. well said Dhara!
Our favourite thing to ask everybody is their take on fitness. This entrepreneur shared her view on fitness. “Fitness for me is my strength to do things, to pull my whole day effortlessly.” That’s so simple and straight “as linen”
She has some cool advice for us as well and as we said earlier ‘we are all ears’, “Live a focused life, you should know where you are going, whether it’s with your kids, your relationship, or your business.”
