Acing the leadership role with Yash Sanghavi

A leader knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way,” by John C. Maxwell, is a cliched quote that is now used to the point that everyone has internalized it. The quote depicts the boss or the organization’s leader as someone omniscient.

That is never the case, though. Instead, leaders are also humans who sometimes feel lost in life. They, too, have their shortcomings and sometimes have no idea about where they are going with certain things. Yet, they navigate through the chaos and locate the light at the end of the tunnel.

This quality is what separates great leaders from their average counterparts. To find out how they do that, Hello Fitness Magazine interviewed Mr. Yash Sanghavi, who has been doing just that efficiently for the past decade or so.

Yash Sanghavi, a millennial entrepreneur

They say, “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree,” which means that children inherit the same traits and characteristics as their parents. That is most certainly the case with Mr. Yash Sanghavi.

As his Instagram bio reads, a personal pilot, equestrian, skier, runner, a, bove everything, a successful millennial entrepreneur, Mr. Sanghavi runs three businesses simultaneously.

Coming from a family with roots in the diamond industry, it isn’t surprising that one of his most successful ventures is Accur8 Diamonds. It is also his primary business, where skilled artisans cut and polish ethically sourced diamonds.

In addition to his diverse entrepreneurial ventures, Yash serves as the Chief Operating Officer at Responscity. This dynamic company specializes in hardware and software development, offering innovative solutions through a citizen-engagement platform. Responscity addresses critical issues, including but not limited to waste management, streamlined complaint resolution, and the implementation of early warning systems. The company's commitment to enhancing disaster management through cutting-edge software solutions is particularly noteworthy. These solutions empower citizens with early flood warnings and provide invaluable support to city governments in effectively navigating and mitigating potential disasters.

For someone who spends most of his day’s hour toiling away at work, Yash finds meditative peace in physical workout. Hence, his third venture is Athletica Fitness, a state-of-the-art fitness center in Surat, Gujarat, that caters to different requirements of individuals. It houses a fully equipped gym, a swimming pool, squash and badminton courts, and a multipurpose studio for yoga and Zumba. Athletica Fitness is also recognized as a major attraction among people willing to learn martial arts and Kudo.

“Happy employees are the source of my constant happiness.”

Despite owning three different ventures in three different sectors, when asked about his biggest achievement, Yash, with a brimming smile on his face, called his happy employees his biggest success.

Yash believes retaining his employees is a bigger achievement than any other milestone he has ever reached. ‘Building a space where everyone is taken care of, not only financially but by other means as well,’ he believes, is the right way to manage your employees.

Further enumerating his approach towards his employees, Mr Sanghavi said that he tries to create a friendly environment in the workplace. This means that every employee, whether an artisan or a peon, gets to have a one-on-one word with him regarding anything.

Apart from that, what contributes to his employee-centric environment is the absence of constraints on time. Unlike other companies where employees must follow a time curfew, the people working for Mr. Sanghavi have time flexibility.

He explained that time is only a notion in their company. His employees understand they must come in the morning and leave in the evening. Although, if they are a bit late or don’t report on time, they know that the company won’t reprimand them for the same. This creates a positive impact in the minds of the people working in a company. For now, they know that the company respects them as an individual and judges them based on the effort they put in throughout the day.

His mindset towards the workspace sets Yash Sanghavi apart from every other business person. He said, “When we are at work, we are not the bosses because we are equally working as much as everyone else.” This quote, right here, sums up the reason behind how he is running a successful company with happy employees.

“New Challenges give you a sense of achievement.”

Being a fitness enthusiast, Yash finds peace in a physical workout. He has made it a point to give at least one hour of his life daily to engage in one or the other sports activity.

One of his favorites of them all is running. Yash finds running a substitute for meditation, as it helps him feel connected to himself. In his own words, Yash describes running as “a wonderful feeling” that always leaves him wanting more.

Also, running is the one exercise that Yash uses as an escape. He goes for a long run whenever he feels stuck in his head, or something work-related bothers him. And more often than not, by the time he returns home, he’s a different person. Hence, it is safe to say that running is his way of striking a balance between his work and personal life.

Yash has made it his goal to try to learn, or at least try a new form of sport, every year. From skiing on the snow to surfing on the ocean and riding horses in meadows, he has done it all. “If you put yourself into such (perilous) positions, certain situations with the threat of danger and overcome them, it leaves you with a sense of achievement,” is the philosophy that Mr Sanghavi adheres to.

This confidence bolsters and pushes him to try new things in his workspace. Having survived the perils of adventure sport, Yash has built the self-confidence he sums up in a single line when he says, “Failure is good; keep failing and keep learning.”

Last, Mr Sanghavi advices young entrepreneurs to learn to keep themselves happy. “Do whatever it takes to be happy, first, because a lot depends on you, and many people depend on you. So, if you’re happy, everyone around you will be eventually happy.”
