This lady radiates so much energy and confidence, making you feel like you've been friends for years after just a few minutes of chatting. In the bustling world of professional tennis, where precision and performance often take center stage, there’s this dynamic persona whose presence resonates far beyond the baseline. Meet Ankita Raina, an Indian tennis player from Ahmedabad, she holds the esteemed title of India no. 1, is an Olympian, and is a fierce competitor on the international stage. Roots and Relocation

Although born to Kashmiri parents, Ankita's story begins in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, where she was born and raised until middle school. The cultural tapestry of Gujarat and its culinary delights profoundly shaped her early years. "Gujarat and Gujaratis have my heart," she reflects warmly. Unsurprisingly, food has always been a significant part of her life—her love for chai, samosas, and Gujarati cuisine is as deep-rooted as her commitment to tennis.

In pursuit of her dreams, Ankita shifted to Pune for high school and college, where she trained intensively. "The transition was crucial for my tennis career," she explains. "But Ahmedabad will always be home, and its flavors and traditions are a cherished part of me." she giggles while expressing her love for Garba and uttrayn, the two most cherished festivals of Gujarat.

The Court Voyage

The proximity of a tennis court to their Ahmedabad home made it an obvious choice for young Ankita. She used to tag along with her mother when she dropped her elder brother at the tennis court and eventually, she started playing. "I started as a hobby, and it became my Identity," she recounts. She thinks that it's all pre-written and destiny plays its role. “it's funny that because there was a tennis court behind my home, I am here today” she giggles.

Holding her racket firmly, Ankita has come a long way in this ace trail. From winning club and state-level tournaments to representing India at such prestigious stages as the Asian Games and Wimbledon our tennis maestro is also an Olympian and is awarded by Arjun Award. And the badges go on.
