Just think about an average high school girl. What do you expect her routine to be? Going to school, coaching, hanging out with friends, completing assignments, right? But there she was starting from dawn, she used to assist her mom in the canteen, then attend her school, and worked as a part-timer in the evening, making time for her studies in between as she aspired to become a doctor. Wondering who this Supergirl is?
Meet Dr. Afreen Jasani; from being a struggling high schooler to becoming a Physiotherapist, entrepreneur & healing coach, she has come a long way treading on the path paved with hard work and self-determination. “Started my first setup (clinic) during my internship only, which was a big risk for me.” With the approach of not settling for less, she always did a little extra than her peers; whether earning her college fees or owning a clinic while being an intern.
Being a married working woman, she thinks it is crucial to accept that our duties are double; at home and work. The sooner we accept it, the easier it will be. “I feel women are multitaskers." With this approach, it becomes much easier to fulfil most of the expected duties while maintaining physical and mental consciousness.
Being a physiotherapist is my favourite role!
Dr. Afreen Jasani Instagram bio says she is a founder, clinical nutritionist, fitness advisor, entrepreneur, and social worker. In her personal life, she is a daughter and wife, but when prompted, she said that her favourite role, amongst all, is being a Physiotherapist. She enjoys her work of healing people. "Because when patients come to us in utmost pain, to make them smile and pain-free is a paradise of a feeling.
Additionally, she has done her fitness coach and dietitian course, which makes her a certified nutritionist. Currently, she is learning yoga and doing workshops as well. “Because life is all about learning and teaching.
Closest to heart: Sahyog
Sahyog is a dream come true.” She started with a small cute 3-bed clinic, and today Sahyog Physiotherapy has three branches across the city. For people working at Sahyog, it is their temple, their worship. Sahyog is a team of 32 Doctors. “We always try to be true to ourselves and our name. Sahyog means a support system, and that is what we try to be.
This approach helped them create the USP of being not only a Physiotherapy clinic, but an overall one-stop healing centre offering yoga, aerobics, nutrition, and diet planning. They heal you without any medicine. “After all these years, Sahyog and I have become one entity.”
An empowered woman empowering others
“We are purposely an all-women team.” She states this not because of some gender bias approach but is her way of giving back to society. “Every morning, I wake up for all those women out there who might need my help in any way.” She had her struggles and hurdles being a female breadwinner, so now, when she is capable, she believes this is her duty to do something for other younger Afreens. Indeed a great thought! “This is the real empowerment I want to bring to society.”
Her message to us
“Do not treat health, exercise, and diet as a punishment, because one can never attain health while being stressed about it. Consider it as a part of your life like food. Do not find a substitute for hard work. And enjoy your work, this is a must.”
Myths and Facts about Physiotherapy
Nowadays, as understanding has evolved, we know that Physiotherapy is not only limited to certain post-trauma patients, but many people need it in their daily life. For example, a school-going kid with a heavy bag, a corporate employee who sits eight hours a day, a pregnant lady or an aged person, could be anyone.
It is not only a post-injury or operation process, but it can give you relief from pain caused by day-to-day routine postures.
Sports persons regularly need physio assistance.
You do not need a doctor’s referral to visit a Physiotherapist.
It is not very painful but also not completely painless.
Physiotherapy is not very expensive, but experts are sitting there to heal you and they should be paid for their expertise.
“Less expensive than any psychotherapy for sure!”
