One of our very own’s daughter, Heer Viradiya, who is currently studying culinary art in the States, shares with us her vision and perspectives towards everything.
From the horse’s mouth- I was a premature six months old baby when my strong emotions for food took off, you might imagine, huh! Six months? They barely have any sense of stability, but trust me I was well versed, just make a random guess of how much a 6-month-old would eat. 1 small bowl of rice and lentils, well turns out I had 3 big bowls of it, shocking right? Besides that, I was blessed to be born in a society that has a rich culinary heritage that has evolved over centuries.
Food, this word might symbolize a source of survival to most of you, but this is the word that my entire life revolves around. Getting inspired by that, I was motivated to compile a recipe book named “the secret spices of India”. Preparing a delicious meal is not just an activity but a tradition, a way of presenting my love. It was when I was 8, my mother started noticing my inclination toward cooking, and made quite an effort to help me pursue this interest further. Whether it be regular family lunches or large get together, she'd make me sit and observe while she cooked and also enrolled me in cooking classes and workshops that happened locally. Over time, as I developed my culinary skills, my love for cooking only grew fonder.
Aside from cooking meals, I was incredibly excited about feeding and arranging dinners for my loved ones. I frequently called them over to get feedback on anything new I experimented with. This gave me more opportunities to explore cuisines and recipes that were out of my comfort zone, which helped me build my confidence and gave me a sense of contentment. To learn more and gain a professional understanding of the culinary field, I enrolled myself to intern for established companies. The daily 8-10 hours of productivity transformed me into a bold and outspoken individual.
3 months into the culinary institute of America, the only thing I can say is it brings an immense love and joy, and it feels like I belong at the CIA. Probably in the coming future, I aspire myself as a great chef and as a greater, wiser, and more experienced person.
This is my first blog with hello fitness magazine and I wish to contribute as and when life happens! Stay tuned and wait for my next piece.
