Now Let's Get Started

My PROFESSION is my HUSBAND!

Krutika Shah’s profile is crisp and commendable. Talking about her profession, she owns a designing firm called ARK Designs and is a valuable part of Surat’s one of the famous construction companies called Milestone Corp. She has been practicing architecture and interior designing for 20 years. Being a sole lady member of the Philatelic Advisory Committee in the Dept. of Posts under the Ministry of Communications, Govt. of India, she advises the Government on the subject of the issue of commemorative and special postage stamps and other allied matters related to Philately.

Krutika proudly declares to have been selected as an empanelled architect for the upcoming Surat Diamond Bourse which is the world’s largest office building. Krutika completed her Bachelor’s in Architecture from SCET, Surat. And she devotes her invaluable time as a faculty in her Alma mater.

The Tale of TAAL!

Krutika is the director and choreographer of a dance group called TAAL. Being a dance devotee, her vision is to spread the diverse folklore of India around the globe. Hence, she leads a team of women in the age group ranging from 8 to 65 years places for showcasing their talent. The TAAL group has performed on various National and International platforms showcasing their love for folk culture in countries like India (Shri Shri Ravishankar WCF, Delhi), Switzerland, Prague, Georgia, Bulgaria, Israel, Brazil, Belgium etc.

Krutika’s dancing journey started when she was 4 years old. She took professional Bharatnatyam training from Guru Smt. Neelaben and Reenaben Raval of "Felicity Art '', Surat. In 1995, she completed her B.A. in dance ( Visharad) from Bruhad Gujarat Sangeet Samiti, Ahmedabad. In 1998, she completed her M.A. in dance (Alankar) from Bruhad Gujarat Sangeet Samiti, Ahmedabad; followed by performing her "Arangetram" in the same year.

Krutika went to the U.S. after getting married as his husband was pursuing his further studies. While in the U.S. she pondered on supporting their living in the country. While the wages for her professional job was too low, she explored the option of her talent as a means of income. She taught Bharatnatyam for 3 years in the U.S. TAAL was founded after she returned from the U.S. Her dancing skills gave her the motivation to form a group of women who are as devoted to dancing as her.

“I monetise from my profession and spend it on my passion. Being a fanatic devotee of dance, I simply cannot monetise from my passion.”

TAAL is her passion project, and hence, she doesn’t charge for her choreography for various folk dances that they showcase. After returning from the U.S., she started doing stage performances for Tennis Club, Surat and eventually they geared up for big stages.

“I have traveled to a lot of countries and my observation is that each country has a culture. But India is the country where there are diverse cultures from the costumes to the cuisines, we have a treasure to explore and showcase.”

Krutika’s sole mission is to promote India and its diverse culture through her breathtaking performances. She wants to leave a mark of her country on every country that TAAL visits.

In January 2020, TAAL organized the International Folklore Dance Festival in Surat, Gujarat along with CIOFF India (International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts) where participants from Slovakia, Indonesia, Poland, Romania and India had performed.

During the pandemic, Taal Group had also participated in various online festivals such as 'Fest Folk Mundi In Red Fort' with CIOFF Brazil, CIOFF 50th Anniversary Folklore at Distance International Workshop Marathon with participants from 70 countries, the 20th Global Folk Dance Festival organised by CIOFF India with participants from 21 countries and CIOFF Israel's International Folkdance Festival 'Light & Fire'.

ART IS IN HER BLOOD

Talking about architecture or dance, this muse is a fanatic art lover. One of the prime reasons for her to be a part of the Philatelic Advisory Committee is the artistic design of the stamps that they issue.

“Philately is a very interesting subject. And I love every subject that exploits the artist in me.”

Krutika sees art in everything that she does whether it be her architecture designing, choreography or her house. Being an architect, she says she has an additional pressure of keeping her house spruced and very well designed. After all these years, it is effortless for her to keep it all trendy and artistic. Every corner of her house is well designed and well decorated.

TIME MANAGEMENT IS HER SUPERPOWER

A panelist in a Central Govt., a professional architect and interior designer, a dancer and choreographer, a mother, a wife and a daughter-in-law, Krutika effortlessly dons each of her roles. She claims that time management is her superpower that provides her all the strength to be in the right place at the right time. Her commitment to time is always commendable as she believes that every role has a specific time.

Juggling between personal and professional life is not an easy task. Mastering this art of time management, she skillfully distributes her time between her profession, passion and her loved ones.

She is even grateful for the amount of support that her family provides. Be it her husband, her daughter, or other members of her family. “In our family, everyone is working. And hence, we can resonate with each other very well,” quotes the architect. When a woman decides to return home at a particular time then no energy in the world can stop her from doing so. So does our muse. She makes sure that wherever in the town she is, she never fails to be home during the lunch and dinner hours. So does each one of them in her family.

“I am not biased towards working women or housewives. In both cases, women are struggling to keep up with all the tasks. A full-blown housewife runs all types of errands to keep her house neat and spruced up. She might know all the prices of all the groceries in the house and she would want to bring the best fruits and vegetables for her family. Whereas, a working woman has to balance her job as well as her chores. She might not know the prices of each grocery or she might not be able to sort the best of the fruits or vegetables, instead, her focus remains that at the end of the day she can provide good food and care to her family.”

Krutika, as a person, is a modest and humble being. “If you want to win hearts, remain modest and down to earth. Arrogance is going to lead you nowhere.” She got me there!

KRUTIKA’S TAKE ON FITNESS

Krutika believes that fitness plays a critical role in life whether it be physical or mental. For her, her physical wellness starts early in the morning with her dancing riyaaz. “In any format of exercise you have a different set of exercises for different parts of the body but dancing provides all-round fitness to your body, engaging every muscle of your body from face to toe,” quotes the dancer. For her, dance is a devotion that provides her with physical as well as mental fitness. Dancing brings joy to her life and energy to work the rest of the day blissfully & This is the main reason for krutika shah to get featured on the 5th issue cover story of Hello Fitness Magazine.

Don’t underestimate Krutika though! She has a full-blown gym in her house. She equally distributes her fitness regimes between gyming and aerobics. Apart from dancing, there is one more thing that keeps her blissful and sane. Her socialite nature. Krutika is a people person. She loves socialising, meeting, and interacting with new people. She is ever smiling and available. Her grace and dignity are reflections of her warm and welcoming nature. And due to this she has named her house “Amantran”.

She welcomes each one with open arms and embraces for who they are!

Being one of the leading women in various occupations, Krutika has a sound advise for our readers

“If you want to be a successful human being you must come out of your comfort zone and try to do what you believe in yourself. Your will power, your desire to achieve your goal will lead you to the destination. You must work hard for every field whether it be your profession or passion. The work always precedes the success; the only place where success precedes the work is a dictionary.”
