Maitri Contractor journey

Maitri Contractor is a young mother and a successful businesswoman with a progressive vision. She believes in preserving the environment. She is inspired by her father and looks forward to being an inspiration for her son. She is Maitri Contractor and this is her journey.

Maitri recalls her 15-year-old self who was inspired and motivated by seeing her father working towards protecting the environment and out of curiosity she started going to her father’s office “in my summer vacations I used to go to the office and learn the way they treat water and do other experiments,” says Maitri. She very strongly believes that one should consider natural resources as a loan rather than a gift and in some way or the other should work to`wards paying it off.

What drives her ahead in life?

“The need of the hour drives me a lot. I am just trying to contribute my share to the environment.” She told us that her parents have always motivated her, especially her mom, who always wanted her to have a cause to live and work towards. She was fascinated with the thought of preserving the environment from a very young age and she knew what she wants to pursue in life. So after completing high school she went to the Vellore Institute of Technology and then to London for her Master’s in Environmental Technology. Post that, she started to work full-time with Detox Group. And this year she completes a decade in this sustainable cause.

Maitri as a mother

Amongst her many identities, she would prefer to be called a full-time working person whether it is her home or work. “I believe I am very blessed as I have a very supportive family when it comes to my child. Both my parents and my in-laws help me with my kid.” Her kid is 4 yet he is very independent and mostly busy with his school, extracurricular classes, and doing constructive activities throughout the day. Once Maitri is back home she ensures most of her time is for her kid and spends quality time together with no gadget rule. “I strongly believe that if today you give time to your child, it will be a worthy investment as this will develop his character and he will become something because of that time of yours.”

The Detox Group

As the name suggests, Detox Group is a waste management company working towards the sustainable cause of managing and detoxifying industrial waste, founded in 1995. Waste management includes purifying water, land, and the environment and making it a reusable resource. “We are a one-stop shop for the detox of the environment.”

Surat is an industrial city whether it is a textile or any other industry. And any and every industry emits waste of one kind or the other. And managing waste, which is left behind in the process of production, is a tedious and complex task, so here the Detox group comes into the scene, they handle the emitted waste so that the industries can focus on the rest.“the idea was to work for the cause of sustainability and for that we started to manage the waste for the industries,” shared Maitri Contractor.

Today DG is actively working in many states including Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan. Also, they have associated with the government of India by sharing their sustainability vision with the honourable Prime-minister Mr. Narendra Modi and initiated the Ghogha-Hazira ro-ro ferry project.

Her take on health

“When I say health, for me both physical and mental health is equally important. There has to be a balance between both,” says Ms Contractor. The urge to hit the gym is her daily motivation, this is what wakes her up every morning. “If I don’t go to the gym that day goes very lazy for me as then the mind is not active.” While working out she mentally goes through the agenda of the day. “For maintaining mental health, meditation is the key. Besides that every night I sit alone with myself to rejuvenate my mind and thoughts, and I feel that’s very important.”

Maitri has some wise advice for our readers, “Give yourself 20 minutes daily and read your mind. Have a purpose in life, it can be anything. Just have some goals and start working towards it, and everything will fall into its place”.
